Joep Titulaer

At the young scientist symposium of the SCNP I presented the work I did as a Master’s student in the laboratory of Professor Torgny H. Svensson at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. Here, I investigated the potential of the nitric oxide donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) on potentiating the effect of antipsychotic drugs. After I finished my Master’s in Drug Innovation in the Netherlands, Professor Svensson invited me to return to Sweden and obtain a PhD degree here.

Currently I am starting my PhD project under the supervision of Dr. Åsa Konradsson Geuken at Uppsala University and Professor Torgny Svensson at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. In this project I am using behavioral as well as biochemical techniques to study the effectiveness of the novel drugs ITI-007 and ITI-214 against schizophrenia and depression. Moreover, I will investigate whether SNP can enhance the effectiveness of these drugs.
